Eugène Alluaud.



Come for a stay on Eugène Alluad's former proprety, impressionnist painter from the School of Crozant.

His life

 

Eugène Alluaud was born in 1866 in a family of ceramists.

 

He discovers Crozant in 1887 while travelling with other painters like Jules Adler and Clément Brun.

in 1891 he stayed for four months in Crozant in the well known Madame Lépinat's Inn where most of the artists like Charrier, Harreux, Osterlind used to sojourn.

By 1893, Armand Guillaumin , the most famous painter of the School of Crozant moved in the village. 

By 1903, Eugéne Alluaud was appointed Artistic Director of the Havilland porcelain Company.

He stayed in Crozant's hotel, Hotel Lepina for few months then decided to rent a house in the village. He named it "Clocher Joli" from the shape of it's hall like a Chruch's steepled. 

 

By 1905, he built his house "La Rocca" in the middle of Crozant;  with a gorgeous view at the Creuse river, the place became a sanctuary for artists.

During World War I, he made several sketches of the troups in Belgium and Somme.

He died in July 1947 in Crozant.
